Cellar for up to 12 years. No need to decant before serving. With a winemaking history that stretches back to the 14th century, the Antinori family are best-known for creating the stunning Tignanello which is considered one of the top Super Tuscan wines. As well as helping to reinvigorate the Tuscan wine industry, the family have a knack for identifying high potential vineyards and have founded numerous wineries across the globe. The family’s Tenuta Tignanello estate is set in the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation in between the Greve and Pesa river valleys. This is a traditional-style wine made predominantly from the indigenous Sangiovese grape which is planted alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Following vinification the young wine is aged in a combination of French and Hungarian oak barrels for a year before bottling. Another year of ageing in the bottle completes the maturation process. The nose opens with enticing hints of red cherries, plums and gentle spice from the maturation process. On the palate there are ample soft tannins and a rich red fruit character carefully balanced aby a bright streak of acidity. The finish is long with hints of cinnamon, cloves and baked earth. A great match for tomato-based pasta dishes or game dishes like venison thanks to the earthy, fruit-forward character of the wine.
