Herzog Wine Cellars is currently under the leadership of David Herzog, a sixth-generation vintner who can trace his ancestry back to the early 19th century, and the region of Trnava in Slovakia. It was here that his family first began to brew wine, beginning an unbroken chain of knowledge and tradition that makes Herzog’s modern wines extremely sought after. The Special Reserve line is the peak of the Herzog wine experience, crafted from the finest grapes, plucked from the greatest vineyards in California. If you are a fan of Californian wine, a bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon made by a family with 200 years of experience is very hard to beat. It is a deep ruby in the glass, bursting with scents of dark and red fruits, black cherry, pepper, cloves and chocolate. This is a kosher wine, crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 18 months in small barrels of French oak. The palate reveals vivid, juicy notes of blackberry and plum, with underlying hints of vanilla, liquorice, tobacco and herbs. With time, it can develop some fascinating tertiary notes and can be aged in the bottle for 20 years or more. Pair this wine with rich, meaty stews, juicy steaks or a lean roasted duck.
